Impromptu speech topics
Impromptu speaking means no preparation. Take a breath, answer the question directly, give one example from your own life, and land on a short conclusion.
A little surprise. A minute to speak.
Pull the lever to find your next topic.
Make a point, give an example, and bring it back to your point.

How to answer: Past, present, future
For personal questions and open prompts.
- 1Past. Where you started or a moment that shaped it.
- 2Present. Where you are now.
- 3Future. What you want next, and why.
Pull the lever first, then see how a strong answer could sound.
How to speak on the spot
Impromptu speaking is a skill, not a talent. These are the habits that make it easier.
Buy a second, then answer
Take a breath before you start. A short pause looks confident; filling it with "um, so, like" doesn't. If you need more time, repeat the question back in your own words while you find your answer.
Answer directly, then prove it
Give your answer in the first sentence. Then give one reason and one example from your own life. Personal examples come to mind faster than statistics, and audiences remember them better.
If your mind goes blank, use the past, present, future shape: how things used to be, how they are now, and what you think comes next. It works for almost any question.
Land it and stop
Most impromptu answers go wrong at the end, when the speaker keeps talking because they don't know how to stop. Repeat your point in one sentence and stop. Silence after a clear ending is fine.

Questions
What is impromptu speaking?
Speaking on a topic you didn't prepare for, usually for one to two minutes. It's common in Toastmasters, job interviews, class discussions and meetings.
How do I get better at impromptu speeches?
Do short reps often. One minute a day on a random topic, with the occasional recording to listen back, builds the habit faster than occasional long practice.
What do I do if my mind goes blank?
Restate the question, then fall back on a simple structure like past, present, future. Starting with any true sentence gets you moving.
